I usually say everything in moderation when you are trying to lose weight and keep it off. But there are a few things that I try to avoid all together. Here are 5 foods I try to never eat. Sugar should be limited to very small amounts and many people use artificial sweeteners to avoid this. The problem is artificial sweetener seem more sweet than sugar. Over time you get used to this and start to crave sweet things. The battle to not eat junk food is going to harder and eventually most people lose and eat things they know they shouldn’t.
Margarine was created as a substitute for butter. At the time people didn’t realize that the trans fats in margarine are even worse than butter. Trans fats can raise your cholesterol and are on most people’s bad list by know. But sadly, too many people still don’t realize they are in margarine.
Soy Protein Isolate
What? That’s what I said, and unfortunately you are just going to have to read the labels to find out if this is an ingredient. Soy is used as an alternative to many things. So naturally food companies started looking for ways to modify and process it. Soy protein isolate is refined and is often genetically modified. The biggest problem is that it resembles estrogen, which can confuse your body.
This goes along with most things that are overly processed. Frozen meals are singled out because they are usually viewed as healthier than canned or other processed foods. But the truth is they are very similar. They are processed and filled with fat and salt – they just also happen to be frozen.
I learned early on that “low fat” almost always meant high sugar. And when sugar became a problem “low fat, low sugar” became high sodium and artificial sweetener (see #1). Basically, any time something bad is taken out of a food it is replaced by something equally bad. But a lot of people eating with very good intentions don’t realize this. And what’s worse, since it is diet they usually think they can eat more of it.
